Resource room now open
A Brighter Tomorrow Foundation grant has provided the funding for a Resource Room for parents, teachers and others who work with children with Autism and other needs. The Resource Room is located at the Easter Seals Child Development Center, a service of Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley, at 25 Thorpe Drive, Dayton.
The goals are to:
• Offer resources to parents of children with developmental and other disabilities
• Initiate regular meetings of our parent support group
• Provide classroom planning, education, and training resources for teachers
• Increase communication between parent and teacher, teacher and teacher, and teacher and director
Thanks to the Foundation grant, the Resource Room now has many items available for parents and teachers including:
• therapeutic/developmental/sensory toys
• CDs and DVDs
• pre-writing tools
• multi-sensory items
• preschool language and literacy software
The Resource Room has already made an impact. Says one teacher.
“I am grateful for this fantastic space available for our use! What a wonderful place to take a break. On the computer, I gather information for lesson plans and print out materials from the program “Board Maker”. I am completing a self-study using Dr. Becky Bailey’s CD program titled “Conscious Discipline”. This program has given me numerous ideas to use when interacting with the children. I appreciate having educational materials that help improve my skills as a teacher. A day doesn’t go by that I am not exploring art supplies, looking at classroom materials and gathering something for my class use. The space is quiet, relaxing and good for re-energizing. It is a convenient place to hold meetings with colleagues and other staff members.
Please call the center at (937) 910-7307 to schedule a time to use the Resource Room and for more information about borrowing resources.
