Meet Dave Machowsky
Inspired philanthropist, innovative entrepreneur
Integrating social responsibility into his business is only one aspect of Dave Machowsky’s success. He began his business, Advanced Background Check, 18 years ago and has done over 16 million background checks since.
Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley began working with Dave in 2008, when the organization was looking for another company to do their background checks. Prior to hiring Advanced Background Check, 2.5 percent of applicants had criminal records. Since hiring Advanced Background Check that number has risen to 25 percent—something Dave sees over and over when taking on new clients.
After beginning his business partnership with Goodwill Easter Seals, Dave quickly became interested in how he and his business could support the agency from a philanthropic stand point.
“My perspective and experience is that every business should be giving,” says Dave. “Whether time or money it’s a great way to build your team and give back to the community. In the times we are currently living in, it is more important than ever to give. This is when people need us most.”
Although Dave anticipated becoming a Goodwill Easter Seals donor and encouraging his employees to participate in volunteer projects, he was pleasantly surprised that it has become an avenue for hiring.
“Goodwill Easter Seals participants who are in the employment programs have been moved to the top of our hiring list,” says Dave. “They come from Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley’s top notch training facility and we look forward to welcoming as many as we can to the Advanced Background Check team.”

“From kids to seniors Goodwill Easter Seals serves everyone,” says Dave. “In addition to their employment programs, we’re very proud of their services for kids. A lot of kids have a zero chance, through no fault of their own. These young people are going to be taking care of us one day and we need leaders.”
