Anne Brinker

Adult Day Service Program - Piqua

While Anne Brinker is totally amazed at the staff and participants at the Adult Day Service program in Piqua, the staff and participants are equally impressed with Anne.

Being in her 50’s with multiple sclerosis, Anne was hesitant to visit the ADS, thinking that many of the other participants would be much older.  But, after visiting with her husband, Mike, in May of 2010, Anne decided to give it a try.

Anne comes to the Piqua location at least three times a week.  She brings her laptop, spending time writing and doing research of all kinds.  Other program participants are learning about computer use through Anne and she assists the participants with more severe disabilities with their daily routines and activities. In addition, some participants and staff also help her with tasks she finds difficult to perform.

Recently, Anne acted as an ADS spokesperson at the Troy Lions Club and she serves as an advocate for people with multiple sclerosis and other disabilities.  She enjoys spending time riding a horse at the Eagles’ Wings Stable Therapeutic Riding Center in Piqua.

Anne says, “I feel safe and am totally amazed at the staff. I’m getting out of the house and enjoy the socialization.  My husband loves the center and he knows I’m safe when he is working."

Others feel the same about Anne.  One of her fellow participants said, “She’s such a nice lady, nice every day, not just sometimes."

Michelle Caserta, Adult Day Service Piqua Program Coordinator said, “Anne is that way, humorous and kind with everyone, no matter what their physical or mental challenges are."

Anne has been a refreshing addition to the ADS family and everyone looks forward to her continued participation.
